Couple of acronyms today so let’s just break them down. VAMI, vCenter Appliance Management interface. FBB, file-based backup. The VAMI is used to manage your vCenter and can be accessed by navigating to https://vcenter_ip:5480, vCenter IP is replaced with whatever yours is. From there you can configure the FBB, this utility allows you to backup your vCenter and even schedule backups so that if there is corruption or catastrophic failure to you VCSA, you can use the VCSA installer to restore from backup. Since we are already discussing logs I would also like to mention that ESXi host logs are cycled out after about 24 hours as they are stored in memory, I know I’ve lost a lot of important data by waiting too long, but you can have those log files sent to a log server by configuring syslog.global.loghost with the FQDN or IP of your desired log server and you can set multiple as well. Apologies for the delayed posts as well but trying to study for my VCP and been incredibly busy with Christmas and New Years. As always if you have any questions feel free to leave a comment!
